Social Movements and Counterinsurgency in Negros Occidental, Philippines Collection

Two months ago we acquired a small collection on 'Social Movements and Counterinsurgency in Negros Occidental' (Philippines) This collection is now available for consultation and visible online (see: http://www.iisg.nl/archives/en/files/s/ARCH03457.php) The collection (brought together by Rosanne Rutten and John Wiersma) contains documents on the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the National Democratic Front (NDF), the New People's Army (NPA), the Catholic Church and sugarcane workers in the province of Negros Occidental, roughly covering the period 1975-1992. Also included in the collection were a number of photographs and video footage of so-called "surrender" ceremonies. In the collection are a few little gems like an Ilongo translation of Mao's 'Five Golden Rays' (mimeographed), a small hand sewn NPA flag and a original copy of a filled out graduation form of a military training by the NPA in Negros.  Part of the collection consisted of local Negros newspapers which have been transferred to the IISH library (AFP-Negros News and Features (Weekly information bulletin of the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Negros Island), The Visayan Times, The Visayan Daily Star, Today News-Views, Sun-Star Bacolod, Kapawa News Digest, The Weekly Scope & Iwag) In the near future small additions to this collection are to be expected.
