On the 20th of October Professor Liang Hong, president of the Guangxi Normal University and IISH director Henk Wals signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
In this Memorandum they agree to cooperate as partners in research related to global economic, social and cultural relations focussing on Asia and covering the 17th century to the present.
This will take shape by establishing a visiting scholarship programme, the organisation of workshops by both parties resulting in 1-2 published volumes or special issues in both Chinese and English, and the setting up on a regional database on Chinese economy and society.
This cooperation will strengthen the current China activities of the IISH that are focussed on analyzing the economic and institutional relations between Europe and China, enhancing economic and labour history in China, and building a related, and freely available, dataset. By signing this agreement, each of these three activities will be expanded.
