Following the great burning of books in Hitler's Germany on May 10, 1933, some authors were able to rise from the ashes thanks to the Amsterdam publishing house Allert de Lange. A German department was established. Bertolt Brecht, Joseph Roth, Stefan Zweig, and others moved their activities to Amsterdam. A magazine for exile literature, Die Sammlung, was published here as well.
