Explaining slavery in South and Southeast Asia 1600-1800 is funded through a Veni research grant awarded to Matthias van Rossum in 2015 as part of the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
Duration: 01-01-2016 to 28-02-2019.
The CLIO-Infra project will create a set of interconnected historical databases on worldwide social, economic and institutional indicators over the last five centuries, with special focus on the last 200 years. These indicators will enable historians to study the long term development of global inequality. The project is led by Jan Luiten van Zanden, who has formulated IISH's research programme on global economic history. CLIO-Infra will be hosted by the IISH.
The project 'Coin production in the Low Countries: 1334-1789’ showing the importance of coinproduction for the economy, politics and monitary developments during the middle ages and early modern time in the the Southern and Northern Low Countries (present-day Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg) by means of data compiled by many historians over the pas few decades.
We thank the heirs of prof. dr. John Munro and dr. Phil Slavin for making available the late-medieval data. Prof. dr. Eddy van Cauwenberghe and Lucy Verachten were very helpful throughout, providing the Southern Low Countries dataset and explaining how it had been created.
