After the 1917 revolution, the traditional Christmas celebration was removed to New Year's Eve in the Soviet Union. The New Year is warmly welcomed with a decorated fir tree, sweets and songs. Grandfather Frost, a lookalike of Santaclaus, and his daughter Snowgirl, come to offer presents. On this picture from 1954 'G. M.
