A world-wide clemency appeal was launched after the American communists Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were sentenced to death on the accusation of espionage for the Soviet Union. In some communist families new-born were named after the Rosenbergs, like this baby Ethel Julia van Haaren from Rotterdam. The Rosenbergs were executed on 19 June 1953.

Materials from Rosenberg committees worldwide is to be found in the archive of the Dutch communist Jules de Leeuwe.
