1948 Juliana and 2224 anti-votes

Hardly any anti-monarchist protest at all was heard when Queen Juliana was inaugurated in 1948. The Dutch were busy rebuilding the country, which was in ruins after World War II.

All parties of the Left including the Communists supported  the House of Orange, with one exception: the Trotskyists. They issued a poster “Long Live the Republic,” an election poster from the Revolutionary Communist Party with  Sal Santen heading the list. He got 2224 votes, 0.05 percent of the votes, but no seat in Parliament.
