Germany declares war on Russia on 1 August 1914. Within two weeks an extensive military confrontation between the Russians and the Germans on the Eastern Front followed. Initially, the Germans had to retreat and leave Eastern Prussia to the Russians. The Russian Army celebrates this triumph by issuing a poster with a verse about how an aggressive German dog is beaten by a Russian soldier.
