The Daily Graphic was a lively daily with solid political news reports as well as 'tear jerkers.' A case in the divorce court drew a great deal of attention on 18 February 1895.
An English merchant from Gibraltar sued his wife for adultery with his nephew. Both the wife and the nephew keep denying this in spite of many witness statements. Until the 14-year old son is cross-examined: he states that he has seen his mother and the accused in bed together. He then bursts into tears, and his mother has to leave the court in `a fit of weeping'.
The jury found for the petitioner and set the fine at 750 pounds.
