Despite the call from the powerful German anti-nuclear movement to protest against the construction of the nuclear power plant Neckarwestheim II on the September 12, 1983, this  last newly built German nuclear plant was linked to the net in 1989.
In the end it was the tsunami of March 2011 and the subsequent  nuclear disaster at Fukushima, Japan, which led to the decision of the German government to stop the long-term use of nuclear energy.
