"Look, they're small, dusty, and they're not wearing any shoes." French fellow-travellers Jerome and Jocelyne Steinbach watched as the first Red Khmer soldiers entered the city of Phnom Penh on April 17, 1975. Although the Red Khmer regime was later better known for its many victims, the Steinbach book, published in 1976, describes the first optimistic months after the "liberation" of Cambodia.
