The International Economic History Association (IEHA) has made the decisions on the shortlist of dissertations to be invited to present their work at the XVIIth World Economic History Conference 'Diversity in Development' in Kyoto (3-7 August 2015).
One of the nominees in the category Early Modern Period is Pepijn Brandon with his thesis: Masters of War. State, capital, and military enterprise in the Dutch cycle of accumulation (1600-1795).
Pepijn Brandon is currently working as a post-doc researcher on the project Slaves, Commodities and Logistics for which the IISH, VU and Leiden University received a NWO grant last year. This spring, Brandon was the winner of the D. J. Veegens Award.
The International Economic History Association (IEHA) is an organization composed of national, regional and international associations in the field of economic history, broadly defined, and other related disciplines. The aims of the IEHA are to promote the development and diffusion of economic history worldwide, through the organization of a World Congress every three years, amongst other activities.
At every World Economic History Congress a number of prizes are awarded for the best PhD dissertations, and as of 2012 also for the best PhD student poster.
