Caléjava, 1700

Caléjava is a republic founded by a refugee from Europe named Ava. Foreigners are welcome to stay on the island on condition that they comply with the constitution.

Farming is the only type of labour in Caléjava.
Those who are good at agricultural work are endowed with political power.
Animals have rights and are not put to work. Ploughs are drawn not by an ox but by humans paddling between two huge wheels.

Polygamy is institutionalized in order to guarantee a steadily growing number of nationals.
Children are separated from their parents at the age of four and raised by state-monitored guardians.
Their natural parents, fathers in particular, have no talent for raising children.
