Developments in Central and Eastern Europe meant 1991 was a hectic year for all those working for the aims of the IISH. Extensive use was made by those countries of the IISH's expertise in the field of management and disposition of collections. In addition, numerous sister organizations were kept informed of developments by J. Kloosterman, in his capacity as secretary of the International Association of Labour History Institutions (IALHI).
These developments also led to visits to Russia and Czechoslovakia by E. Fischer and J. Kloosterman. A. Saich and E. Fischer also established contacts with institutions and people in China who can be expected to play an important role in the future.
