On 12 December 2013, the vice-president of Bolivia, Álvaro García Linera honoured the Institute with a visit. With him was an extensive delegation including the Bolivian ambassador to the Netherlands Eduardo Rodríguez Veltzé.
The Bolivian delegation was welcomed by IISH Director Henk Wals and Deputy Director Afelonne Doek. Part of the reception was a tour through the collections. The vice-president had specially requested to see the Karl Marx Papers.
The Latin American desk of the IISH is located in the Bolivian city of La Paz.
