The Global Labour History approach, developed within the IISH research department, is more and more being followed outside the institute.
The October 2012 issue of the online, open access journal Sozial.Geschichte Online/ Social History Online is a Festschrift for Marcel van der Linden, the IISH Research director. It is published on the occasion of his 60th birthday, but it is also a tribute to the IISH Global Labour History approach.
In the Festschrift various authors describe how Marcel van der Linden, through his own research and through his efforts in creating a global network of labour historians, played a central role in the transformation from labour history to global labour history.
Global Labour History focuses on the critical approach of eurocentrism and methodological nationalism. A central question is how transnational historical research can be put into practice.
