Polish Provos

'Vote twice.' With this slogan Pomaranczowa Alternatywa (The Orange Alternative) demonstrated in favour of a referendum in the Polish city of Wroclaw, hoping for a turnout of 200%. President Yaruzelsky, who felt pressured to consult the people, had decided upon a referendum on economic reform on 27 November 1987. The proposal failed to receive enough support, however.

The Orange Alternative was a surrealist movement of students and artists in Poland in the 80s. They participated in humorous protests, happenings and performances against the communist regime. Although they embraced policemen to thank them for doing their duty and sang Bolshevik songs dressed in red, their actions were not popular with the government.
