PhD Theses

IISH researchers defended their PhD thesis:
On 23 November 2007, Danielle van den Heuvel and Jelle van Lottum, two former members of the IISH research staff, successfully defended their PhD theses during a combined examination at Utrecht University.

Danielle's PhD thesis is entitled Women & entrepreneurship. Female traders in the Northern Netherlands c. 1580-1815. Her research is part of the project Women's Work in the Northern Netherlands in the Early Modern Period (c. 1500-1815).

The title of Jelle's PhD thesis is Across the North Sea - The impact of the Dutch Republic on international labour migration, c. 1550-1850. His research forms part of the project Close encounters with the Dutch - The North Sea as near-core region for a nascent modern world (1550-1750).

Both books were published by Aksant Academic Publishers.
