New Thai Collections

Recently two new Thai collections have been made available.

First there's the Thailand's Red Shirt Movement (VCDs/DVDs) Collection. It's a collection of VCDs and DVDs (mostly) on the Red Shirt movement in Thailand: registrations of speeches, songs, concerts, seminars, rallies and manifestations, Pue Thai Party election campaigns etc. They were acquired mostly in the period 2010-2012. Other VCDs/DVDs pertaining to the Red Shirt from earlier periods have mostly been catalogued by individual item, so this collection doesn't constitute all the audio and video materials present in our holdings. For detailed contents of the collection see https://search.socialhistory.org/Record/COLL00186

The second collection is on Thai Independent Youth Culture. This is a collection of independently produced magazines, comix, poetry, novels, short stories. Often handmade (DIY), photocopied, in small print-runs. They were collected in the period from 2003 up to 2015, with a bigger part coming from the earlier years. Music festivals like the 'Fat Fest' used to have a separate area for DIY publishing where these materials could be acquired, as well as in the small number of independent bookshops that would keep these materioals on the shelves, or in later years the Independent Bookfairs. The collection holds almost 250 different items. For a detailed list see here: https://search.socialhistory.org/Record/COLL00180
