On 6 August 1945 the American Army dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima to force the Japanese to surrender. After the devastation and long-lasting effects became clear, there were always protests against testing new nuclear weapons. The IISH holds many materials on anti-nuclear protests: photos, posters, pamphlets, trial documents, and banners. The 1995 fax posters are an example of a very special protest. On an initiative of Helmut Langer artists from all over the world faxed their pictures to protest against nuclear testing. The 250 pictures were exhibited and further spread by fax.
