A few months after the destruction of Guernica, a commission appointed by the Spanish (Nationalist) Government began an investigation into the matter.
It came to the conclusion that the town of Guernica was not devastated by nationalist aerial bombs, but as a consequence of an evacuation order issued by the regional Basque government.
This photo is supposed to show the evidence. The projection room of the cinema seems to have been burned from the inside out. The empty petrol can can still be seen at the left on the photo.
