Hungarian Tinsmiths

A group of Hungarian tinsmiths entered the Netherlands in March 1868. The itinerant traders living in tents or caravans had specialized in repairing kitchen utensils. This picture, taken in April 1868 by a photographer in Dordrecht, possibly shows the tinsmith Gomann and his wife. Gomann's regalia include a silver-plate tambour-maître stick and silver ornaments on his waistcoat. His wife is wearing a necklace made of silver and gold coins.
