The protest against the American Neutron Bomb in Amsterdam on 19 March 1978 was one of the most successful peace actions in Dutch history. This protest had a broad national response (1.1 million people signed the petition in 1978). The Russian and East German communist parties contributed financially. The Dutch Communist Party leader Joop Wolff, had a meeting with his colleague of the Politburo of the Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands (SED) in November 1977. Wolff asked for financial and moral support, and the SED pledged their word to this the next day.
