Many people came to bury Russia's internationally known anarchist Peter Kropotkin on 13 February 1921. The burial committee had convinced the Moscow soviet that the anarchists who were jailed should be liberated for this one day so they could attend the funeral. International celebrities such as Emma Goldman held speeches, and a cortege of political organizations and trade unions followed the coffin through the city for seven versts to the cemetery. At the Tolstoy Museum the cortege paused to listen to Chopin's Funeral March.
The ceremony was recorded in photos from the G.P. Maximov collection at the IISH.
