Peyman Jafari receives Fulbright Scholarship

IISH PhD fellow Peyman Jafari has received the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to conduct part of his research at the Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies department of Columbia University.

During five months, Peyman Jafari will conduct research into the social history of the Iranian oil industry between 1978 and 2008. His research focuses on the working and living conditions of Iranian oil workers and the changing relationship between oil workers and the state under the impact of great sociopolitical transformations such as the revolution (1978-79), the Iran-Iraq war (1980-88) and economic reconstruction and restructuring (1989 -2008). The IISH Research Project Labour in  the Iranian Oil Industry is at the basis of Peyman Jafari's research.

The Fulbright Program is an international educational exchange program sponsored by the US government. Based on an advice by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), the Fulbright Center awards up to seven PhD fellows at Dutch universities each year, to conduct part of their PhD research at an American university.
