Het grote eerbetoon aan Nelson Mandela in Nederland vond tien dagen na zijn overlijden op 5 december 2013 plaats in en rond de Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam, waarbij ca. 2500 vroegere anti-apartheid activisten en anderen hun steun betuigden aan zijn levenslange strijd tegen racisme en onderdrukking in Zuid-Afrika. In de weken daarna vonden ook nog enkele andere activiteiten plaats als eerbetuiging aan Nelson Mandela. Op zondag 12 januari organiseerde ActionAid-Nederland - voorheen het Nederlands instituut voor Zuidelijk Afrika (NiZA) - in Amsterdam een "In memoriam Nelson Mandela" met ondermeer een tentoonstelling waarin een selectie foto's, posters, etc. uit de collectie van het IISG over Nelson Mandela werd gepresenteerd (zie bovenste foto).
Enkele dagen later werd een speciale editie van het blad ZAM gepubliceerd - een prachtig Mandela bewaarnummer met de titel "De toekomst van Nelson Mandela" (zie onderste foto). De verkoopprijs bedraagt euro 12,50. Het nummer is te bestellen via https://www.zammagazine.com/mandela-bewaar-editie
Eén van de artikelen in dit 76-pagina’s tellende blad gaat over de “Schatbewaarders” van Mandela, zoals het Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Johannesburg, maar ook de anti-apartheid en zuidelijk Afrika collectie van het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis (IISG). The national tribute to Nelson Mandela in The Netherlands took place ten days after his death on December 5, 2013 in and around the City Theater in Amsterdam with approx. 2500 former anti-apartheid activists and others expressing their support for his life long struggle against racism and oppression in South Africa. In the following weeks some other Dutch tributes to Mandela occurred. On Sunday January 12, 2014 ActionAid-Netherlands - previously the Netherlands institute for Southern Africa (NiZA) - organised an "In memoriam Nelson Mandela", including an exhibition in which a selection of photographs, posters, etc. from the collection of the International Institute of Social History on Nelson Mandela was presented (see upper photograph).
