Vrijdag 1 juni jl. was ik op een bijeenkomst in het Academiegebouw in Leiden, waar het Afrika Studiecentrum samen met de Vrije Universiteit en de Zuid-Afrikaanse ambassade in Nederland een lezing organiseerden over de betekenis van Nelson Mandela, naar aanleiding van het feit dat het dit jaar 100 jaar geleden is dat hij werd geboren. De 'keynote speech' werd gehouden door prof. Tom Lodge, die een interessante uiteenzetting gaf over de kernmerken van het leiderschap van Nelson Mandela. Ik had een kleine selectie van on archiefmateriaal over Nelson Mandela bij me dat ik in de hal ten toon kon stellen. Later dit jaar zullen zeker nog andere activiteiten gaan plaatvinden in het kader van het "Mandela 100 jaar", in Nederland en elders.
Friday, June 1, I was at a meeting in the Academy building in Leiden where the Africa Study Centre together with the Free University and the South African embassy in The Netherlands organised a lecture on the importance of Nelson Mandela, on occasion of his birth now 100 years ago. The keynote speech was delivered by prof. Tom Lodge, who presented an interesting analysis of the characteristics of Mandela's leadership style. I had a small selection of our archival items on Nelson Mandela with me, which I could present in the corridor. Later this year there will other events on the Nelson Mandela centenary organised in The Netherlands and abroad.
