Vrijdag 11 december jl. bracht Minister Mthethwa voor Cultuur van Zuid-Afrika een bezoek aan het IISG, in het kader van een tweedaags werkbezoek aan Nederland (waarin de minister ondermeer ook het Rijks en Minister Bussemaker van OC&W bezocht) om de culturele samenwerking tussen beide landen te versterken. Minister Mthethwa had met name zijn belangstelling voor de anti-apartheid en zuidelijk Afrika collectie van het instituut getoond en daar was ook de rondleiding en presentatie die ik verzorgde, op gericht. Maar de minister bleek tevens zeer geinteresseerd te zijn in de delen van de algemene IISG-collectie die directeur Henk Wals hem liet zien. Hopelijk zal zijn bezoek ook leiden tot een nog meer effectieve samenwerking op archiefgebied tussen Nederland en Zuid-Afrika, waarin onze collectie een waardevolle rol zou kunnen spelen.

Last Friday, December 11, Minister Mthethwa of Arts and Culture in South Africa visited the International Institute of Social History (IISH), within the framework of a two-day working visit aimed at strenthening the cultural coöperation between South Africa and the Netherlands. Minister Mthethwa expressed specifically his interest in the Anti-Apartheid and Southern Africa collection of the institute, on which I gave a presentation. Yet, the minister also showed his interest in other parts of the huge IISH-collection which were introduced to him by IISH-director Henk Wals. Hopefull his visit will contribute to even more effective coöperation between both countries in the archival field, in which our collection could be very useful.
