In Angola, a postponed May 1st Demonstration was organized by a trade union in favour of the marxist-leninist People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) on 22 May, 1975.
The demonstration had to be postponed as there had been heavy fighting between MPLA and the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA). This was the eve of a civil war fought by three liberation movements - UNITA being the third - which once had the same goal: liberation from Portuguese colonial rule. Civil war continued until 2002. It caused a disastrous humanitarian crisis in Angola, internally displacing 4 million people.
