Maya Pejic photocollection processed

In the second half of 2015 I spent most of my time on processing the vast photocollection of Dutch photographer Maya Pejic (born 1935). Over 220.000 negatives, slides and photo prints on minorities, social problems, anti-racism and other political campaigns, etc. in the Netherlands from the 1960s as well as images of the living conditions of especially women and children in dozens of Third World countries. Surprisingly few items on Southern Africa - only a series on Zimbabwe and some anti-apartheid events in the Netherlands, like the photographs below of a demonstration in June 1986 in front of the South African embassy in The Hague featuring Dutch AAM chair Conny Braam. Yet, for me a highly interesting and challenging project. Now, it's back to business on Southern Africa stuff - especially our photo collections on this issue.

Following the processing of this photocollection the IISH-website now features a small online exhibition of full colour photographs of Maya Pejic on the theme of child labour in the 1980s in a series of Third World countries: https://socialhistory.org/en/collections/child-labour-photos-made-maya-pejic
